Position Summary

The Companionship Volunteer provides emotional support and a comforting presence to hospice patients facing the end of life. This non-clinical role is essential in helping patients feel seen, heard, and cared for during their final chapter. Volunteers offer presence, conversation, quiet companionship, and light non-medical support based on the patient’s wishes and needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Visit patients in their homes, assisted living, or nursing facilities

  • Offer presence: listen, talk, read, or simply sit quietly

  • Engage in comforting activities such as playing music, sharing stories, or looking through photos

  • Support the emotional and spiritual well-being of patients through non-judgmental presence

  • Report visit notes and patient updates to the Volunteer Coordinator

  • Respect patient confidentiality, dignity, and hospice values at all times
